A common question that family photography clients and potential clients ask when booking an outdoor photo session in Las Vegas is:
"What time will the photoshoot start?" or "When will my session be?
My response is:
"I'm a natural light photographer, so my sessions take place during golden hour, which is 1-2 hours before sunset. This time of day gives that glowy, flattering, magical light that is seen in my portfolio. Sunset that day is at __:__ pm, so the session would most likely need to start between ________ to _______ pm, depending on the location."
Well, I thought it would be helpful to share this chart to give you an idea of when your 1-hour photo session will most likely take place, depending on the month of your photoshoot! This information can help you decide on the best month to schedule your session based on your family's personal schedule and activities, while also considering the season and temperatures. For example, you might try to pick a week where there are less activities, events, visitors, etc. to reduce stress and so you have time to get ready for the photoshoot.
To keep things simple, I listed the sunset time for the 15th of each month. That way, whether you book in the first half or second half of the month, you'll still have a general idea of when your session will start.

As an example, if you book a session in mid-October, I might tell you that 4:45 pm will be our meeting time because that will maximize the lighting at our chosen location. Therefore, our session will run approximately from 4:45-5:45 pm.
Note that sessions in the Fall and Winter have earlier start times, which means that you might be able to get your session all done before dinner time.
Sessions in the Spring and Summer start later, since sunset is later. Therefore, your photoshoot might occur during your regular dinner time. I know it'll be a sacrifice of your routine for one day, but the magical light will be worth it. Trust me! Some tips to manage the change in schedule:
have everyone eat snacks before the session (and before you get dressed)
bring some non-messy snacks for your kiddos to munch on, if needed, during the session itself.
For those families with little ones who still nap, you can use this information to schedule your photoshoot accordingly. If the photoshoot means a later bedtime, perhaps a slightly later nap than usual can help.
What time will we start if it's an in-home family, newborn, or maternity photoshoot?
If your session is taking place at home, those usually start at 9:30 or 10 am. This time usually maximizes the sunlight entering the windows of your home. 🙂 If you're looking for comfortable temperatures, a unique and sentimental location, and the ultimate convenience, consider having your next photoshoot in your very own home! Alright, I hope that this blog post gives you all a little bit more information about when your photo session might take place. As always, the earlier you book, the more likely that I'll have greater availability. That will allow you to choose a date that works best for your family and your family's schedule! I can't wait to plan your session with you! :)
